The (winding) Road - Artists Book
Edition of 10 (+1 AP)
A collection of prose taken from The Road by Cormac McCarthy printed in handset letterpress in 12pt Goudy Old Style and 24pt Blado Italic. Also included are sketches printed in letterpress inspired by the book.
Each selection of prose was randomly reordered to emulate the concept of a winding path.
The book includes 34 pages—titling, 12 sketches, 24pgs of quotes—and the book structure is handmade in a Belgian secret binding. The fore edge of the pages are hand deckled to emulate the 1st Edition printing of The Road.
4 printed on white Johannot paper, 4 on ivory Canson Mi-tientes. These 8 are bound with Dover bookcloth.
The remaining 2 are printed on some old mold stained printmaking paper covered with worn and sun damaged book cloth.
The silver symbols at the bottom of the text pages show their place in the story through the cylinder of a revolver; 2 bullets first, then 1 bullet, then 1 bullet with 5 wooden fake bullets last.
I created a unique one-off case that houses the AP copy along with my first edition copy of the book and the Field Notes notebook that I filled with sketches inspired by the book (and a few by the movie adaptation). You can view that HERE.
